“We may be knowledgeable, but are we wise?” This rhetorical question is the recurring theme of this moving lecture by Imam Siraj Wahhaj. It may be the case, given the first revelation of “Iqra” in the Holy Qur’an, that most Muslims understand the importance of seeking knowledge. But many of them overlook the qualification implicit in this command: the seeking of “sacred” knowledge. What is this sacred knowledge and do we understand how important it really is? And once attaining this knowledge, how should it affect our attitudes, actions and direction in life? Whether you are a college professor or a young student of knowledge, Imam Siraj’s practical advice along with his spirited delivery will help you to truly fulfill that first Qur’anic commandment and, God-willing, help you to become a better Muslim along the way. (Duration: 1 hour, 5 min) Siraj Wahhaj, imam of Masjid Taqwa in New York, is well known among Muslims in North America as a dynamic, motivational speaker and tireless supporter of Islamic causes. He accepted Islam in 1969 and received training at Ummul Qura University in Makkah. He is the former vice president of ISNA and has served on the Majlis Ash-Shura since 1987. He received high praises from the NYPD for initiating anti-drug patrols in Brooklyn in 1988.
